In the true spirit of Golden Rock and its magical gardens, there is Amaranth, a lovely Caribbean home, just adjacent to the now famous hotel. Surrounded by tropical foliage, a rain forest ghaut, and historic walls, Amaranth is a virtual Garden of Eden with more than 80 varieties of trees and plants. (An amaranth is a mythical flower that blooms forever). There is a feeling of total privacy, yet Golden Rock Hotel is just a few minutes’ walk away. Nestled amid the foliage is a gracious West Indian home with an alfresco dining/sitting area that provides tropical living at its best. A large living room and kitchen, and a third bedroom, are in the main section. Two additional large bedrooms open onto the outdoor veranda with views of the sea from this rain forest perch. Private nature walks at both sides of the house.

LIVING ROOM
Comfortable and airy room includes attractive louvered cabinets with bookcases and storage; large windows open to the front of the house with views.
KITCHEN
Small efficient kitchen adjacent to a utility room and laundry. Refrigerator and gas range and Corian countertops. Pantry and broom closet.
BEDROOMS
3 bedrooms. One bedroom is in the main house off the living room. Full third bath with shower between the kitchen and living room. Two bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with private entrances off the outside front veranda, which has views to the sea and Montserrat.
VERANDAS
The front covered veranda is perfect for enjoying the views and alfresco dining. Two bedrooms open onto the veranda. Steps from the veranda lead down to the pool and parking area and garage below the main house.
CONSTRUCTION
Block and masonry; composite roof. House is very high quality construction, built in the 1960s by the late Samuel Hunkins, who restored Golden Rock estate and created the hotel.
POOL
A somewhat freeform roundish pool is 10’ x 18’ surrounded by attractive foliage, just a short distance from the house via a stone pathway. A perfect place to relax under the adjacent bamboo gazebo.
OTHER DETAILS
Amaranth is situated next to a tropical ghaut, and the property provides nice walking areas that include densely planted beds separated by well-trimme lawns. Interest is created with old stone walls, 2 eighteenth-century canons and a copper from the sugar cane era. Eclectic furnishings including plantation, antique and West Indian design add to the charm. House has been updated with hand-crafted mahogany windows from Vermont. A garage,generator house and pool storage area complete the property. Aside from the adjacent Golden Rock property, the house is not far from Best Buy supermarket and inns at Hermitage and Montpelier. Wonderful hiking trails into the rain forest connect the house to the local environment.
